Welsh ponies and cobs are suitable mounts for both children and adults. The modern Welsh Pony is known as a riding and driving pony. It is shown both in hand and under saddle, including hunter/jumper and dressage competition, and is a popular children's pony. They have a reputaton for intelligence, friendly personalities and even temperaments, allowing them to be easily trained. The Welsh breed is used for many forms of equestrianism, including pleasure riding, as well as horse show competition.

The Welsh Pony is a part of a group of ponies and horses native to Wales. For many generations these ponies were the hill farmers' main way of getting around the farm, herding sheep and wild ponies over rough and mountainous country. The ponies had to be hardy, sure-footed, balanced and fast to survive. These qualities, combined with a natural jumping ability, and the temperament of their Welsh Mountain Pony forebears make today's Welsh Pony second to none in whatever field his young rider may choose.

Nowadays the Welsh pony holds its own among our top class riding ponies both in performance competitions, such as working hunter pony competitions and in the show ring. The aim of the Pied Piper Pony Stud is to produce the ultimate child’s riding pony.
